MINT NOS!
1971 LeCoultre Polaris II Memovox Alarm Watch w/Boxes & Papers!
ULTRA RARE - Only 1,120 Ever Made! This circa 1971 gent's LeCoultre "Polaris II" Dive watch is the second generation of the famed Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Dive Alarm Watch. The original Polaris has skyrocketed in price during recent years and nice examples are now fetching $12,000 - $15,000. The Polaris II (shown) is actually rarer than the original Polaris model.... approximately 1,800 pieces were made of the original Polaris, while there were only 1,120 examples of the Polaris II manufactured. This is a VERY rare watch. With the recent re-design/re-introduction of the Polaris model by Jaeger-LeCoultre, these watches are expected to appreciate rapidly.

Adding to the rarity of this watch is it's condition... Mint New Old Stock. This watch has never been worn, never been polished and is exactly as it left the factory almost 40 years ago. The case back has never even been removed. The dial, hands, case, crowns, crystal, etc., are all original. The watch was found at a jewelery store, unsold, and came to us with it's original box and manufacturer's guarantee paperwork from the store. The only piece on the watch that is a replacement is the stainless steel bracelet, which is generic. When you find watches that have been stored for many decades by jewelers, the bands/straps are almost always removed to conserve space in the safe.
This is a H-U-G-E watch, measuring 46mm across, including the crowns (42mm w/o crowns) and 51mm lug-to-lug. The watch was designed large to be easy to read and use in full dive gear. Even the blue color of the large uni-directional bezel and dial was chosen because it is the last color to disappear underwater. The watch is slightly oval, with a sand finish on the stainless steel outer case. The case was designed to be waterproof to a depth of over 100 fathoms (200 meters). The blue uni-directional bezel has a mirror-polished stainless inner bezel that was difficult to photograph. The case is pristine throughout.
Looking through the pristine original crystal, you'll find a beautiful factory original (not refinished) blue dial with a white outer minutes track and a gradient blue inner rotating alarm dial. The top crown on the watch rotates the inner alarm dial pointer to set the alarm time. This is a purpose-built watch. The watch has easy-to-read luminous hands (original) and a date window at the 9 o'clock position. The dial is marked "HPG", which stands for High Precision Guaranteed. This refers to the high precision speedbeat movement used in this watch. The dial looks like the day it left the factory, almost 40 years ago. Pristine.
The watch is powered by its original LeCoultre 17-jewel caliber 916 full-rotor automatic wind movement. This is a high-precision "speedbeat" movement, oscillating at 28,800 beats per hour. As a testamony to how well-designed this movement is, it is still used in the JLC Master Compressor Memovox models today, almost 40 years later. The case back has never been off of this watch and I don't want to risk scratching it to be the first one to open it. The watch winds, sets and runs nicely and all functions work properly but it has laid unused and hasn't been serviced since leaving the factory almost 40 years ago.
Don't miss this chance to own this watch! You'll never see one of these models in NOS condition again!
