Petite & Elegant! This stunning solid gold lady's vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre backwind watch is sure to get noticed wherever you wear it! LeCoultre backwind watches are truly special timepieces. They were some of JLC's top-of-the-line and most expensive watches, because they represented the state-of-the art in miniturization, while providing superior performance to other watches. The "DuoPlan" 2-level construction of these special movements allowed for a larger balance wheel that provided greater accuracy and a larger mainspring that provided longer running time. We're one of the largest collectors/dealers in the world of these vintage backwind watches.
This stunning all-original watch has been well cared for and looks almost like new! Obviously, it spent most of its life tucked away safely in a drawer, unworn. The watch has never been polished and the case edges are factory crisp and unbuffed. The case and original integrated link band are both composed of solid 18 karat rose gold. Unlike yellow gold, rose gold has a larger percentage of copper in the gold alloy that gives it a warm reddish hue. The rose gold versions of this watch were made in much smaller numbers than yellow gold or white gold and they're much more desirable for this reason.
The round solid 18 karat gold case and band are original to the watch and the gold hallmarks show that this watch was originally produced for the British market. The case is beautifully mirror polished throughout. You'll notice that the winding crown is located on the back of the watch instead of on the side, as with most watches. This gives the watch a much more refined look and is part of the DuoPlan design that gives the watch superior accuracy and power reserve.
Looking through the clear, scratch-free crystal, you'll see an original (not refinished) pearl white dial with solid gold applied numerals and arrowhead hour markers and gold hands. Everything is shiny and pristine. The watch is powered by it's original 17-jewel caliber 426 Jaeger-LeCoultre backwind movement. The watch winds, sets and runs nicely, though the it hasn't been timed or serviced while in our possession.
This dainty watch measures a petite 13.5mm (about 1/2 inch) across and will fit up to a 6-1/4 inch wrist. It can be lengthened relatively easily by any local jeweler simply by extending the "ladder" on the clasp or can be shortened by removing links. The watch weighs 20.7 grams. Don't miss this one!
