Truly fit for a Queen! This rare custom-made Omega watch was commissioned in 1986 by the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al-Said. These watches were kept within the Royal Family or handed out as gifts to special dignitaries or close friends. This particular watch was presented by the Sultan's uncle to his fianceé. The watch comes with its original custom-made Omega burgundy presentation box with the Royal Oman Family Crest imprinted on both the outer and inner boxes.
The watch was modified by the Omega factory specifically for the Sultan of Oman with a custom gold dial imprinted in red with the Royal Oman Family Crown. It has been reviewed and authenticated by Omega-Switzerland's vintage historian, John Diethelm. According to Mr. Diethelm, the specifics of the set are as follows:
- OMEGA - Ladies bracelet watch
- mvt# 47’352’598
- Quartz movement of calibre 1455
- watch reference: BA 791.105B.BO1
– 18k solid gold case and soldered mesh bracelet
- Sapphire crystal
Dial with special “Oman crown and crest”
- Manufactured and delivered to Omega's Agents in Oman = May 30, 1986
The watch has a beautiful gold dial with applied solid gold baton hour markers. The solid gold dauphine hands have a frosted finish on one side and a mirror polished finish on the other which gives them a very 3 dimensional appearance. The dial was custom imprinted in red at the Omega factory with the national symbol of Oman, a khanjar dagger in its sheath superimposed on two crossed swords in scabbards. The dial is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The dial does have a small area near the 3-5 o'clock edge (shown in pictures) where the clear lacquer coat has lifted.
The case and band of the watch are made of solid 18 karat yellow gold. The bezel and sides have a perfect mirror polished finish and the back is satin brush finished. The attached Omega-signed solid gold woven mesh band has a few links near the case on the top and bottom that have been expertly repaired, as shown in pictures. The watch will fit up to approximately a 7 inch wrist.
The watch is powered by its original Omega 6-jewel caliber 1455 Swiss quartz movement. The watch sets and runs perfectly, and keeps accurate time. It received a full service in August 2007 and a new battery was installed.
The watch comes with its original inner & outer presentation boxes which were custom-made by the Omega factory for the Oman Royal family. The outer burgundy paper box is in fair condition, but has several peeled and damaged areas on the top. The Royal Crest imprinted in gold remains intact. The inner burgundy suede-lined leatherette case is in fair/poor condition. While the cae is still quite attractive and the Oman Crest shows perfectly, the outer leatherette cover has begun to flake off upon touch and is very fragile. The inner suede lining is in excellent condition.
The watch measures approximately 24.25mm (just slightly less than 1 inch) across with the original Omega-logo gold crown crown and will fit up to approximately a 7 inch wrist. It weighs 38.3 grams or almost 1.25 troy ounces. That's a lot of 18K gold! With gold currently trading at over $900 per ounce, the gold melt value alone is almost $1,000. Don't miss this chance to own one of the most desirable and exciting Omega watches ever offered on eBay!
